BANGOR- A recent survey completed by Apartment List Today suggests that Maine residents are amongst the least satisfied when in comes to renting a place to live.
“I have a little concern about people moving into our neighborhood and bringing bad people in.”
The survey accounts for quality of schools, access to recreational activities, and taxes. The only categories Maine scored above a failing score in are confidence in the economy and plans for home ownership. But it scored an overall f for renter satisfaction, with only 33 percent saying they’re satisfied with the safety and crime rate, and many people in Bangor agree.
“Ehh, the area is not so well balanced. There’s a lot of good people, bad people, a lot of people just doing whatever they want, fights.”
But while some renters agree with the low scores in the study and have concerns about the safety and the economy in the area, others disagree and say that they feel very happy and comfortable living here.
“It’s a lot better than it used to be a couple years ago, that’s for sure. There’s less bath salts and less people being all messed up in the middle of the street just like going crazy.”
“We feel pretty good living in Bangor.”
Despite the results of the survey, people seem to be pleased with the up-and-coming feel of Bangor’s downtown area.
“Everything’s close, nearby, and it’s a pretty eclectic place. A lot of unique people.”
“Really just this new downtown and how nice it is to be able to come downtown and take a walk with the little one and enjoy ourselves.”
