AUGUSTA – Mainers are one step closer to being able to carry concealed weapons without a permit.
The bill passed in the Maine Senate, and now heads to the House of Representatives.
Maine law currently allows gun owners to openly carry a handgun without a permit. This measure would eliminate the permitting process for concealing them. Supporters say it will protect people from breaking the law. Opponents say, taking away the permit process removes a layer of safety for the public.
Nearly a hundred legislators have signed on to the bill, and is also being supported by Maine state police.
