AUGUSTA – The state’s appropriations committee is putting in extra hours – working through part of the weekend to try to finalize a budget.
Lawmakers having a difficult time trying to agree on a 6.5 billion dollar budget plan. One of the many things they’ll have to work on is a potential cut for income taxes – which the governor is stressing as a priority.
Saturday – they voted in favor of payments to nursing homes – and voted against setting money aside for legal battles Attorney General Janet Mills declines to represent the administration in.
A budget needs to be finalized by June 30th to avoid a government shutdown.
