YORK – Scared to save a life. Now, it’s trying to change that.
Today doctors and nurses at York Hospital announced they’ll be giving free infant CPR kits to parents of newborns.
Statistics show the survival rate of babies who have their heart stop outside of a hospital is just about seven percent. Those with loved ones who have a cardiac disease understand how important CPR skills are.
“You are the person between life and death. That’s a big thing so I think these kits will be wonderful.” Barbara Conda, Grandson has Heart Defect
“It’s time well spent for all of us to learn those skills so that if an incident occurs we can contribute.” Jud Knox, York Hospital President
York Hospital will start by giving away 50 kits with the help of the American Heart Association. Each includes a 20 minute training video.
