HERMON – Two local high school students are heading to Washington D.C. For a national history competition.
Jordan Ryder and Kaarie Burns of Hermon High School placed second at the Maine National History Competition.
Their theme was Deborah Sampson: the first woman to ever be in the military. They say it’s their love of history that is driving them to compete.
“I like everything about it, it’s one of my favorite topics. I like knowing why we have things here today and the fact that it repeats itself.” Kaarie Burns, One of Two Students Competing
To win, they will have to convince judges why Sampson was so important to history and why she interests them.
The event runs from June 14th to the 18th.
