Maine House passes bill to raise minimum wage to $9.50 by 2017
AUGUSTA – The Maine House on Monday voted largely along party lines, 81 to 66, to pass a bill to raise the minimum wage to $9.50 by 2018.
“I applaud Rep. Dillon Bates of Westbrook and the members of the Labor committee for their effort to do right by Maine workers. It’s long past due time to raise the minimum wage,” said Speaker of the House Mark Eves, D-North Berwick. “No Mainer who works full time should live in poverty. Raising the minimum wage is an important first step toward addressing poverty, but we must also be focused on growing good jobs with livable wages. Maine’s comeback story depends on it.”
