ORONO — The state mandates masks or facial coverings be worn when in public restaurants and stores.
Meg Gardner, owner of the Common Loon Pub, said they are obeying the rule.
Gardner said they are making their customers wear masks in order to be seated and served. While they have had some problem customers, last Sunday may have been the worst yet.
Gardner said that initially a group came in with masks but weren’t wearing them. Eventually, they put the masks on. When the server approached their table, however, things took a turn.
“He asked them to leave because they were being really difficult. And then it escalated very quickly. The woman threw the menus, then the silverware. Then she spit at him,” Gardner said.
Later, Gardner posted the following on the pub’s Facebook page: “If you want to enter our building wear a mask.”
