MILBRIDGE – Gateway Milbridge created a Maine Bicentennial Art Project for the town.
19 local artists decorated wooden cutouts shaped as the state of Maine following the theme, “All Things Maine.”
The artwork has been on display in the Milbridge Theatre and Arts Center lot for the public to see for the past two weekends with the final showing coming up this weekend.
According to Gateway Milbridge Chairperson Richard Bondurant, the purpose of the project is to showcase the talent of local artists, to help celebrate the Maine Bicentennial and to bring business to downtown Milbridge.
“I think people are starved for things to do outdoors in a safe environment during COVID, and this has been a good result for that because we’ve had a lot of turnout for people coming to see the pieces,” Bondurant said.
The pieces are going to be auctioned off from Aug. 5 to Aug. 11 online to raise money for the Milbridge Theatre and Arts Center.
