BANGOR – Heavy thunderstorms in Bangor last week caused the harbor master’s boat to sink in the Penobscot River.
The motorboat’s bilge pump failed and the boat was pulled from the water last Tuesday, according to the Bangor Parks and Recreation Department Director.
“We’re going to be assessing what damage has been done to the boat, including the motor, getting an estimate for the repairs, and if indeed if things are repairable, we will move on and try to make those repairs,” said Tracy Willette, Director of Bangor Parks & Recreation.
Willette said the boat is used for waterfront events and to patrol the water during the spring and summer season.
With the strict restrictions of COVID-19, many summer activities have been canceled decreasing the usage for the harbor boat.
Willette said the boat is insured and hopes it will get repaired soon.
