BANGOR- After backlash over how Bangor school officials handled the announcement about a students death by suicide nearly two months ago, the school committee is working to put a clear policy in place.
The last time this topic was addressed at a school committee meeting, parents were told the protocol was part of the confidential comprehensive emergency action plan.
Since then, the public parts of that protocol have been put on the school departments website.
On Wednesday night, the school committee discussed putting an overview in the policy handbook that would direct people to that web page for more detailed information.
“What is pretty clear is that we need clarity. This policy is to strengthen our message to the community and most importantly our students that we have trained staff to support them,” said Superintendent Betsy Webb.
The school departments website includes resources and recommended action plans.
