BANGOR – Twin brothers, Gabriel and Abram Karam, from Bangor have gone through life by each other’s side. Not only are they both graduating from the University of Maine, they’ve both been honored as outstanding graduating students.
Gabriel from the Maine School of Business, Abram from the College of Engineering.
“It is kind of encouraging to have a twin brother because we’re both trying to do our best and we both encourage each other to push ourselves,” Abram Karam said.
Every year the University of Maine colleges name their outstanding graduating students based on academic achievements and overall engagement in the UMaine experience.
10 students are chosen. This year the Karam twin’s were two of them.
“It’s been an incredible honor,” Gabriel Karam said.
The twins said they went to the University of Maine for it’s great academic programs and following in the footsteps of their mom and older brother.
“It’s kind of becoming a family thing I guess,” Gabriel Karam said. “Black bear nation.”
This year didn’t end as they expected.
“It is a little disappointing of course but we’re making the best of the situation,”
The twins are now taking two different paths. Abram is attending grad school for a master’s degree in mathematics. Gabriel is looking to start his career.
“As we start to do different things in life I guess we can kind of compare each other like, what did he end up doing? What am I going to do?” Gabriel Karam said. “It’s kind of neat in that way.”
