BREWER – People battling cancer face a number of challenges. Now, a generous donation is helping patients in that fight feel more like themselves.
Wednesday, Bangor Savings Bank donated $25,000 to Northern Light Cancer Care’s Hair Preservation Campaign, during a presentation outside the Lafayette Family Cancer Institute in Brewer.
The hair preservation program works to provide cooling caps to cancer patients, helping to reduce hair loss, as well as some of the stress and anxiety that goes with battling the illness.
“Fighting cancer is partly your attitude. And if you feel like you look good, you’re going to feel better, you’re going to be more energized and you’re going to have much more aggression to fight that cancer,” said Brenda Farnham, manager of nursing services at Lafayette Family Cancer Institute.
The money helps to cover the cost of leasing the scalp cooling equipment, as well as to offset the cost of silicone caps for the patients.
The campaign has raised more than $160,000 to provide the hair preservation treatment, which is not covered by patients’ insurance.
