BELFAST – Lots of free Christmas meals were offered throughout the region.
For the 10th year, the Belfast United Methodist Church hosted a free community Christmas dinner put on by members of the church and volunteers.
“You know we’ve been believing that this season is not about just gifts. It’s great to give and receive the gifts, but it’s not only about the gifts, it’s about presence, especially as a community of faith, we believe in the presence of Jesus Christ,” Pastor Jinwoo Chun said.
Doors were open throughout Christmas afternoon and the menu included turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and carrots.
While guests ate, Chun and the volunteers made sure that everyone felt a warm welcome and the spirit of the holiday season.
“Especially I just talked with several senior citizens and they said it was so nice that they could come out here and have time being with us together instead of being alone at home,” Chun said.
The Christmas meal will not be the last free supper as beginning in March through November of next year, the church will be hosting free dinners, open to all, every Saturday,
