DEAD RIVER TOWNSHIP – The body of a York woman who was reported missing over the weekend was found Tuesday afternoon.
According to a statement from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the body of 31-year-old Caitlin Giunta was found around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, about 500 feet from shore in Flagstaff Lake.
Giunta was reported missing Saturday night, after the canoe she, her boyfriend and her brother were in overturned due to rough lake conditions and heavy wind, according to the statement.
The two men made it to shore and alerted authorities.
Maine State Police, Maine Marine Patrol, game wardens and other first responders helped search for Giunta.
Her body was taken to Smart and Edwards Funeral Home in Skowhegan.
