WATERVILLE – State and Waterville police are continuing to investigate the shooting of a 7-year-old girl in a Waterville apartment on Summer St.
This shooting happened this afternoon.
Gold St. and Summer St. have been blocked off.
The spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, Steve McCausland, said the call for the shooting came in around 3:30 p.m.
McCausland said the girl was rushed to the Thayer Unit of MaineGeneral. He said she was then flown by Life Flight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
According to state police, they are continuing to monitor her condition.
One neighbor said recently it has been quiet in the neighborhood.
“All of a sudden I hear three shots go off. I asked my girlfriend, I was like, ‘Did you just hear three shots?’ I look out the window and I see all the people like I said,” Gunnar Goodrich, a neighbor, said.
“I asked her ‘Do you think that was a drive by?’ Sure enough the police came in, the ambulance came in, people in the front are running around. I see cops just screeching their tires and running up the stairs in that apartments,” he said.
McCausland said police plan to work well into the night to investigate the shooting and gather evidence from the second floor apartment.
