BANGOR — Bangor police arrested two men Tuesday afternoon in connection with the robbery of a credit union.
Bangor police Sgt. Wade Betters said police received a report of a robbery around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Acadia Federal Credit Union branch located in Northern Light Health’s Eastern Maine Medical Center.
According to Betters, within a half-hour of the robbery being reported, police found a vehicle believed to belong to one of the suspected burglars parked on Essex Street.
He said several minutes after the car was located, Corey Violette, 28, of Bangor, and Earl Torrence, 43, of Bangor, were taken into custody for questioning.
Betters said later Tuesday afternoon both men were charged with robbery. Although the statement from Betters did not say a weapon was involved in the alleged robbery Violette had a loaded handgun when he was caught.
Both men are being held at the Penobscot County Jail. Bail has been set at $10,000. They are expected to make their first appearance in court Wednesday afternoon.
Betters said, the men allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money from the credit union.
