BELFAST – A Stockton Springs mother accused of beating her 10-year-old daughter to death last year was found guilty after an eight-day trial at the Waldo Judicial Center.
Sharon Carrillo, 35, had been charged in the brutal beating death of her oldest daughter, Marissa Kennedy, who died of battered child syndrome.
Her husband admitted he killed the elementary school student on Feb 25, 2018, and is now serving a 55-year prison sentence.
Jurors were charged with deciding if Sharon Carrillo participated.
While she had confessed, her lawyers said she gave a “fake confession” because she has a low IQ, was the victim of domestic violence and was coerced into doing so.
Kennedy had more than 40 blunt force trauma injuries to her 76-pound body when examined by the medical examiner.
