BREWER – It’s official: Maine’s best drinking water is in Brewer.
The city’s water beat out dozens of communities around the state to claim the title.
The Maine Rural Water Association judges water from two categories, water with a disinfectant, such as chlorine, and water without a disinfectant.
The Brewer Water Department won the water with a disinfectant category and Town Hall Apartments in LaGrange took home the win in the water without a disinfectant category.
The two then went head to head in a taste test with Brewer emerging as the winner of the title.
“We have a lot of customers that like the taste of our water. They said we have good water so to actually have the panel pick us was really great,” said Brewer Water Department Superintendent Rodney Butler.
Butler said the department will represent the state of Maine at the national taste test in Washington, D.C. in February.
