Bucksport – In May, the Maine Street Bucksport raised $16,000 for their program Bucks’ Bucks.
The program was a relief fund for the town’s businesses and designed to give community members double what they pay for, but only if they bought a gift card for the local participants.
15 different businesses were involved in the program and the reaction has been positive throughout town.
“The matching fund ran out about two weeks ago,” Executive Director of Maine Street Bucksport Brook Minner said. “Although there’s lots of bucks out there, they’re good until Nov. 1. And, every week businesses turn them in, and we cut them a check. I think it was a big success.”
Minner said several future projects are in the works that will continue to support local businesses.
