BUCKSPORT – The Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is closing its doors, according to a dissolution notice released on the chamber’s website over the weekend.
The notice said the chamber’s board of directors came to the tough decision after realizing they couldn’t survive financially on membership alone.
It also said that because of COVID-19, they have been unable to hold fundraising events.
“Really we had bills to pay and no money coming in and no way to plan anything to have money coming in so that was kind of the whole reasoning behind it,” said board member Colin Meshey.
All chamber of commerce employees have been furloughed at this time in hopes of a possible future chamber merger.
Until then, there will be no online presence for the chamber.
The dissolution notice went on to say how all board members and staff are thankful for the people involved in the chamber over the years.
