BUCKSPORT – The town of Bucksport has a public safety director, but the post is filled by a very familiar face.
The town council voted unanimously to create the position of public safety director to oversee both the police and fire department.
They selected Police Chief Sean Geagan to fill the post.
“It will be a major change to the town itself but not as far as public safety goes. We’re all really under the same roof already. It’s just a different command structure and we want to run public safety as efficiently as we can for the town of Bucksport,” Geagan said.
Town manager Susan Lessard says Sean Geagan is now the public safety director and there is a deputy chief in both departments.
“All three are long term employees with the town, very well-respected by all members of both departments,” said Lessard. “I think their leadership will provide a successful transition to this new model.
Lessard says the move positions Bucksport to move forward into the future.
They say the only changes will be administrative and the public will see all the same faces respond to emergencies.
