BANGOR- Monday night, city councilors voted to move forward with putting a new solar field on the piece of property by the airport between Godfrey Boulevard and Maine Ave.
The city will be contracting with a Maine based company, ReVision Energy.
Initial costs for the project are just under $70,000.
A representative from ReVision said once it’s paid off, the solar field will save the city about $50,000 annually.
The energy from the possible solar array will be bringing power to different municipal buildings.
“It’s a pretty sizable project,” said Sam Lavallee, ReVision’s director of financing. “It’s about a megawatt on 5 acres of land and 2,500 solar panels. It will offset somewhere between 5% and 10% of the overall city load.”
City officials said if all goes as planned, the project will be completed by next fall.
