ORONO – A recent plane crash in Iran left 176 people dead.
On Thursday night, people gathered at the University of Maine to remember the victims of Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752.
The vigil was hosted by the Iranian Graduate Student Association.
More than two dozen people, including students, faculty and members of the public, came to pay their respects.
“It’s nothing in our common thinking to see something like this. We need to be able to make meaning of it,” said Robert Dana, the vice president of student life at the university of Maine. “We don’t want anyone here or elsewhere to ever walk away thinking people can parish and there’s no value in it.”
Iran has admitted to accidentally shooting down the plane that killed all 176 people on board.
