WINSLOW – Investigators and employees were back on the scene Monday of the fire that destroyed McCormack Building Supply.
Fire crews were called to 8 Lithgow St. around 12:30 p.m. Friday. Firefighters from several surrounding towns were called to assist.
Community members are coming together and helping out after the fire.
One young girl — a friend of the owner’s daughters — made muffins and brought them to the scene Monday morning.
“We could see the smoke coming from our house so we felt really bad,” the girl said.
It was just one of many acts of kindness toward the workers at McCormack’s.
Local businesses and restaurants also stepped up and donated food to workers and crews.
“The community as a whole was very intuitive and they paid attention and so it was saddening. It’s sad to see a local business, such as his, and it’s a family-owned business, [burn down] right before the holidays for a tragedy like that. It’s terrible,” said Tonja Jones, a local sandwich artist.
Jones said she would also like to help out once the rebuilding begins.
