BAR HARBOR – Visitation has been suspended at a Bar Harbor hospital due to a coronavirus outbreak.
The Mount Desert Hospital has restricted visitation to the public. Exceptions include obstetrics and emergency as well as oncology.
“The less virus that is in our community, the easier it will be for us to provide the health care that everyone needs,” said Art Blank, President of MDI Hospital.
According to the hospital’s website, they have had three COVID-19 cases reported in the past week, in contrast to not having any for months.
In addition to the three COVID-19 cases, there have been five positive cases from out-of-state plus people from other Maine counties.
The web site also stated the MDI hospital’s COVID-19 team is providing counseling and contact tracing assistance for patients.
Blank said residents and visitors should wear masks, practice regular hygiene and physical distancing to prevent the spread of the virus.
