Hancock County – The victim of a fiery crash last month has been identified as a 53-year-old Sullivan and Gouldsboro resident.
According to a statement from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, the Maine Crime Lab used DNA to identify Bruce Merchant as the victim of a June 19 accident in township 7.
The head-on accident happened around ten p.m.
The statement says Merchant was driving a pick-up truck that crossed the center line and collided with a second pick-up and both vehicles caught fire.
Chief Deputy Patrick Kane said people passing by were able to rescue 32-year-old Timothy Smith of Steuben and his 5-year-old passenger Payton Smith from the second truck.
They were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
