UNITY — Maine Harvest Federal Credit Union was one of two new credit unions established in the United States last year.
The credit union’s specialty is the mortgages for small farms.
President and CEO Scott Budde said they are using grant money to help pay for closing costs
“If you have closing costs of several thousands of dollars, that may dissuade them from doing it,” Budde said.
“This will help them to be able to do it. Also, someone who has a loan that’s at a higher rate, this will help to reduce the cost with refinancing that loan,” he said.
Budde said the program pays up to $3,500 in closing costs.
