BUCKSPORT – Earlier this year, the Bar Harbor town council told a cruise ship to stay away this year.
Now, American Cruise Line is asking the Bucksport Town Council to anchor in Bucksport.
Bucksport’s economic development director says the company has been working with the Maine Center for Disease Control to develop a COVID-19 safety plan.
“The cruise line would operate at 50 percent capacity, and they would like to use our port to transport visitors either to Bar Harbor or over to Fort Knox,” said Rich Rotella, economic development director for the town of Bucksport.
Rotella says some of the ship’s passengers might even decide to visit Bucksport’s downtown.
The town council will decide at its meeting next Thursday whether to welcome the ship to its Penobscot River port.
