DANFORTH – Officials from the town of Danforth and LifeFlight of Maine held a special ribbon cutting ceremony for a new helipad.
According to Roger Rossingnol, project coordinator for the town, the new helipad was needed because the last time an emergency helicopter landed in Danforth, it had to use a school soccer field as its landing zone.
“Now, we have a dedicated zone and this zone is in a critical location because it is at the public boat landing, which is used in summer and winter,” Rossingnol said. “It’s at the intersection of the snowmobile trails and the ATV trails, so there’s a lot of activity in this area and it would be an easy place to get in and out of.” .
He added the installation of the helipad was funded by donations and fundraisers.
