DEDHAM – Authorities have released more information about a deadly multi-vehicle accident on Route 1A Saturday afternoon.
In a statement, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said Edwin Roberts, 89, of Dedham was traveling on Pine Trail Road, approaching an intersection with Route 1A.
The sheriff’s office statement said Roberts failed to stop at a stop sign, and drove in front of a truck driven by Ahmet Hakan Parlakulas, 50, from Williamsburg, Massachusetts. Nancy Parlakulas, 57, of Williamsburg was also in the vehicle.
The truck, which was pulling a trailer, and Roberts‘ vehicle collided, and crashed into another vehicle driven by 61-year-old Randolph Mosley of Ellsworth.
Another vehicle, driven by 68-year-old Lawrence Saucier of Ellsworth, ended up hitting Roberts‘ car as well, police said.
Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene.
“For one of the few times, we can’t blame the road in this case. It was a driver error with someone pulling out of the side road,” said Craig Shane, the Dedham/Lucerne Fire Chief. “Three different vehicles with one pick up towing a camper.”
The sheriff’s office said four people were taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, three with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
