BANGOR- Starting next month, your dogs will need to be on a leash at the Bangor Waterfront.
On Monday night, city councilors voted to update the ordinance to add the area from Sea Dog to Dutton Street to places your dog needs to be on a leash.
The only exception to that is during events specifically meant for dogs, such as dog shows.
Right now, dogs can be off leash most places in the city if they are under control by the owner.
“I mean you’ve got so many different types of folks down there. You have people in walkers and wheelchairs and little kids,” said city council chair, Clare Davitt. “While everyone may love their own dog, not everyone may love your dog, necessarily. There’s just a lot of folks down there, so we think having your dog under control makes a little more sense.”
Also a reminder for dog owners, licenses expire on December 31st.
Make sure to go to Bangor City Hall and renew them before then.
