HERMON – The temperature was great and the snow was just right for tubing at Hermon Mountain on Monday.
It was a nearly prefect day for clients of Downeast Horizons to ride the tubing shoots.
Youths and adults with developmental disabilities braved the mountain aboard inflated tubes.
Downeast Horizons Executive Director Tony Zambrano said the day on the slopes was the brainchild of Bill Whitcomb, owner of Hermon Mountain.
“We hope to make it an annual thing,” Zambrano said. “Today we have about a hundred plus people to just enjoy Maine like it ought to be. We’re taking people down this hill in wheelchairs that would never have the opportunity to do it. So it’s just a wonderful day. A lot of smiles. It’s something that we really ought to do every once in a while.”
He further said that one of the hurdles they overcame was transporting all the clients from Ellsworth, Mount Desert Island and Brewer to Hermon.
