BROOKS – In Brooks people got a free taste of turkey.
The Varney Building was open to everyone Thursday afternoon who wanted a Thanksgiving meal in Waldo County.
The dinner is sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Brooks, and a group of 15 to 20 volunteers.
A church leader said a lot of the food was grown locally, including some vegetables from the re-entry program in Belfast.
“And we’ve had local farmers donate other vegetables and we had a donation of raw milk from the Hill Farm in Monroe, so it brings people together as a community in many ways,” said Rev. Russ Arnold.
The church has been putting this on for about five years, and Rev. Arnold said they had an especially good turnout this year.
