BANGOR – United Way of Eastern Maine kicked off tax season with the Eastern Maine Cash-Free Super Saturday Tax-A-Thon.
The Tax-A-Thon assembled a team of skilled volunteers and tax professionals to help people with their tax returns.
United Way of Eastern Maine partnered with AARP to get over 80 tax refunds filed during the free event on Saturday.
“A refund is, especially with the lower income, is one of the largest one time amounts that these people are getting in the year,” said Elizabeth Lewis, a United Way of Eastern Maine site coordinator
“A lot of them have been waiting for this money to come in and pay for bills. But also, it’s seed money for their savings and financial health for the whole year,” she said.
Lewis said the next Tax-A-Thon is April 11.
