ELLSWORTH – An Ellsworth student group has gained permission to paint two sidewalks on school grounds the colors of the rainbow.
Members of the Gender/Sexuality Diversity Alliance got the green light from the Ellsworth School Board Tuesday night.
“The gender diversity alliance, which is a club within Ellsworth High School and their teacher, Carolyn Kutny, have been major advocates for this and they’re also going to be before the Ellsworth City Council on Monday night to discuss rainbow sidewalks on city property,” City Manager Dave Cole said.
Bangor is one nearby city that paints a crosswalk rainbow colors in support of the LGBTQ+ community.
The Downtown Bangor Partnership’s beautification committee recently announced they will be painting jersey barriers placed downtown rainbow colors in “response to the recent anti-LGBT chalk acts in West Market Square.”
