AROOSTOOK COUNTY – An investigation is underway after a small plane crash landed in northern Maine Wednesday afternoon.
According to state police, emergency crews responded to an area in T17 R3 off Sullivan Road in Aroostook County.
It was shortly before 1:00 Wednesday afternoon when 26-year-old Cody Anderson of Levant called Houlton dispatchers, reporting he made an emergency landing with his plane.
Police said Anderson was giving flight instruction to Leigh Smith, 35, of Presque Isle, when the plane’s engine failed.
The aircraft sustained front-end and wing damage, and police said both men inside were taken to Fort Kent Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The FAA and the NTSB are both investigating the incident.
(Correction: A statement from police originally listed Smith as the instructor and Anderson as the student, but later sent out a correction. The story has since been updated.)
