BANGOR – Earlier this week, a Bangor mother appeared in court to face charges in connection with the overdose death of her 1-year-old daughter. On Friday, the father of the child also was charged.
According to Bangor police, 31-year-old Shane Smith has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Smith is the biological father of the baby, who died last fall after she was poisoned with fentanyl, according to the state medical examiner.
Kimberly Nelligan, 33, the child’s mother, is facing two misdemeanor charges of drug possession and child endangerment.
Bangor police said Smith had been cooperating with investigators but has since stopped responding to detectives.
As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Anyone with information about smith’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.
