HAMPDEN – Employees at the new Fiberight Coastal Resources of Maine recycling facility recently made a troubling discovery.
Employees said they found several American flags in the trash.
Shelby Wright, the facility’s director of community services, said several staff members were upset by it.
“The American flag represents us all and it doesn’t deserve to be disposed of in the garbage,” she said.
Heather Bishop, a recycling technician at the Hampden plant, agreed.
“It’s very unpatriotic and flags deserve the right retirement,” she said.
Representatives from Fiberight and officials from the town of Hampden will conduct a flag retirement ceremony at the Veterans Monument at the Hampden Town Office at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The public is invited to attend.
