BANGOR – Firefighters are once again partnering with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to collect money to support local families.
Due to the pandemic, the annual Fill the Boot fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy will be held virtually this year.
The firefighters will be accepting online donations to help avoid the spread of the virus.
Bangor firefighter and MDA coordinator Jared Bowden said he is happy they found an alternative way to help raise money for the charity.
“We are going to try to raise a total of 15 or 20 thousand dollars. Every dollar that we raise is a dollar that gets us a little bit closer to a cure for muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, Lou Gehrig’s disease,” said Bowden.
This past year, the Bangor Fire Department raised about $63,000, which is the most of any department in the northeast.
Bowden hopes to do whatever it takes to contribute to the charity.
