SURRY – A fire broke out at a home in Surry Wednesday morning. Crews were called to 19 Viewpoint Lane around 5:30 a.m.
Surry Fire Chief Richard Black said no one was home at the time. The owner was out of state but the fire chief said an alarm was set off by windows breaking.
When crews arrived, Black said, flames were minimal but there was a lot of smoke.
Fire departments from Surry, Blue Hill, Ellsworth and Orland spent several hours at the scene.
Black said the house has minimal fire damage but significant damage from smoke and water.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The state fire marshal’s office is investigating, according to Black.
