CORINNA – The Red Cross is helping a woman whose home was destroyed by fire Monday.
Corinna Fire Chief Allen Emerson said the fire happened around 11:30 a.m. on Amsden Road.
He said upon their arrival, crews found fire coming from the front room door area going up to the second floor.
Authorities initially thought the homeowner may have been inside but later confirmed she was not at the residence at the time. Crews then knocked the fire down fairly quickly.
“The second floor was unstable, the rafters had been cut away and weren’t even stable to go up there without the fire,” Emerson said. “We did not make it to the second floor. We called an excavator in to take the roof off.”
Firefighters from Dexter, Newport and Dover-Foxcroft assisted at the fire scene.
According to the Red Cross, disaster responders also are helping 17 other people who were affected by fires in Penobscot, Washington and York counties over the weekend.
