EXETER – A fire destroyed a barn on Atkins Road Friday morning.
Exeter Fire Chief Allen Emerson said when crews arrived around 10:30 a.m., there was nothing they could do to save the barn.
“The homeowner was home. He had cleaned the stove out. There was no fire in the stove, nothing going in the barn so we’re really not sure how it started right now,” Emerson said.
Emerson said crews from several towns assisted in putting out the fire.
He said there was more available manpower than usual, possibly because more people are home as part of the effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The fire marshal’s office has been called in to determine the cause.
