OLD TOWN – Firefighters responded to a roof fire reported at a new restaurant and nightclub in Old Town at around 11 a.m. Friday morning.
When the Old Town Fire Department arrived to the location of what will soon be known as “KANÙ” on Main Street, the fire had been mostly extinguished.
“They did a little digging into the insulation, into the membrane of the roof, but the fire was pretty much out,” said Old Town Fire Captain Mike Hildreth. “We checked for extension and found nothing. There was very little damage. The cause is unknown, we don’t know what started it.”
On social media, KANÙ thanked the first responders for their help in putting out the fire.
“One of our contractors doing hot work on the roof caught a section of the rubber roof on fire,” said a statement on KANÙ’s Facebook page.
Captain Hildreth says no one was injured during the fire.
The investigation is still ongoing.
KANÙ is a three-story restaurant, nightclub and rooftop patio slated to open soon. Old Town resident and concert promoter Alex Gray bought the building in 2019, and has been working on developing the venue since.
The post on KANÙ’s social media suggested the fire may have pushed back its opening date.
