PORTLAND & PRESQUE ISLE – It was a much anticipated New Year’s Day for three different sets of parents as they welcomed their newborns into the world.
The first baby born in 2020 in the state of Maine was baby girl Eleen. She was born at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
A release from the hospital said she was born at 12:24 a.m. and weighed in at 7 lbs, 1 oz. The spokeswoman said Eleen was born more than three weeks past her due date and with a full head of hair.
The second and third babies born in the new year were born in Aroostook County at Northern Light AR Gould Hospital.
The spokeswoman for the hospital, Karen Gonya, said the first baby in Presque Isle was born just 11 minutes after baby Eleen.
Less than an hour later, the second baby of the county was welcomed into the world.
Benson Steven Rodney Farley was born just after 1:30 a.m. to parents Sydney Kinney and Brandon Farley of Washburn.
Benson weighed in at 6 lbs, 14 oz. and about 20 inches long.
In a release, Benson’s mom and dad said they’re looking forward to going home with their baby in the new year.
