BANGOR/BREWER – Good Shepherd Food Bank will once again sponsor lunches for children this summer.
According to a press release, the Food Bank is partnering with the Bangor School Department, Bangor Boys and Girls Club, Maine Discovery Museum and the Brewer Housing Authority to offer free lunches to Bangor and Brewer children at several locations from June 15 to August 21.
“We are excited to once again sponsor the Summer Food Service Program in Bangor and Brewer,” said Kristen Miale, president of Good Shepherd Food Bank, in the press release.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, child food insecurity rates could grow by nearly 50%, meaning the number of children struggling with hunger in Maine will increase to more than 70,000. With our partners in the area, we’re working to make sure more kids in the Bangor region have access to nutritious meals this summer,” Miale said.
The food bank is predicting that 125 children will be served each day throughout the summer.
The program is open to all Bangor and Brewer children under 18 at no cost.
