BREWER — The former deputy mayor of Brewer who admitted in June he posted racist comments on Facebook has entered a not guilty plea for filing a false public report.
Even though Thomas Morelli said in a statement he was “ashamed” of his comments and behavior and accepted full responsibility for what he called a “severe failure in judgment,” the former Brewer City Council member entered the plea on July 14.
On the day Morelli resigned from the council, Mayor Jerry Goss said the accused admitted he posted derogatory and inflammatory comments on Facebook, some of which were racist in nature.
Jeff Silverstein, who is representing Morelli, said Thursday in a email that the case is set for a court conference on Tuesday afternoon.
He added he is working with the district attorney on a possible resolution on that date.
