BANGOR – A former Cub Scout leader from Howland is facing charges for sexually assaulting an underage boy.
A Bangor judge set bail at $100,000 cash for 56-year-old James Cameron.
Penobscot County Assistant District Attorney Mark Rucci said Cameron was a Cub Scout leader when the 1998 gross sexual assault allegedly happened in Howland.
Rucci said Cameron spent several years in Massachusetts jails for convictions of similar charges in that state.
According to Rucci, Cameron is also charged with unlawful sexual contact in connection with an alleged 2019 incident.
Cameron is listed on the state’s sex offender registry, which shows four out-of-state convictions for sexually assaulting underage children, including two convictions for attempting to rape underage children.
