BANGOR- You may have seen her on Jeopardy recently making over $ 50,000with Alex Trebek.
On one episode, Augusta librarian Jessica Garsed was penalized $1,600 for leaving out the “s” in Omaha Steaks in an answer.
That’s when Omaha Steaks reached out to Garsed and asked her to pick a charity of her choice to donate the same amount to.
She chose the Ronald McDonald House in Bangor.
“Its really important to keep families together when people are going through medical treatment, particularly children,” Garsed said.
“I know people who have benefited from Ronald McDonald House nationally and from Bangor so it was kind of a no-brainer for me,” she said.
The charity officials were grateful she chose them and responded by letting her take a tour of the house she donated to.
“We feel so honored that she would think of us out of everyone and she said it was an easy choice for her which makes it even more special,” said Marketing Manager Rachael Severance.
“We want to assist families by providing a stress-free environment and do what we can to make the experience more positive,” she said.
After taking the tour, Garsed said she was impressed by what she saw.
“I’m just really surprised by what the building looks like on the inside and its just a very homelike environment. I wasn’t sure what to expect because I’ve seen different versions of the Ronald McDonald House from the outside mostly. It’s really exciting,” Garsed said.
