FORT FAIRFIELD – For the second time in as many days, a fire in Fort Fairfield has claimed the life of a woman, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.
Firefighters were called to 117 Sam Everett Road around six Tuesday night for a report of a home fully on fire, he said.
The state fire marshal’s office recovered the woman’s body early Wednesday morning.
The two-story house collapsed into the basement, where the body was found, McCausland said.
McCausland also said this fire is similar to the one that took place Monday morning on the other side of town. There is no word yet on whether the two incidents are related.
The home belonged to a middle-aged couple and the man who lived there was away when the fire started.
Officials are continuing to investigate.
