BANGOR – It was a windy start for the annual Race for Recovery 5K Saturday morning.
Runners and walkers took off from the Bangor Waterfront, all to raise money for Wellspring, a local substance abuse treatment facility.
Organizers said substance abuse is a brain disease, and so those in recovery should not be judged. They said they were happy with the turnout on a chilly morning.
“It just shows that the community is aware of this significant problem that people are suffering from and they want to support them,” said Dawn Pelletier, with Wellspring.
Their goal was to raise $20,000 to $25,000 for Wellspring.
This is their fourth year doing a race like this.
